Creative Writing
OK, guys, another creative writing task for you… and not an easy one…To fulfill the task you need to watch a four-minute video “A Tribute to Discomfort” (check you year-of-study page) in which Cory Richards photographed himself moments after an avalanche on Gasherbrum in the Himalayas on the boarder of Pakistan and China.

In this video, Richard says, “… (I had) no way of knowing that that image … was going to push my life in such a dramatic direction towards telling that larger story of what it means to hurt, what it means to triumph, and what it means to be human”. So, over to you! What it means to hurt, what it means to triumph, and what it means to be human for you? This is the question you need to floor today:)))

  1. This story made me think about a lot of things. This is exactly the type of real stories after which you understand that your bad marks or conflict with someone don't mean a lot.
Humans. Why do we better than animals? We have feelings and emotions. We can't live without it. And people need other people. It is natural and don't caused by emotions. But imagine your feelings and emotions when you would lose that person. A person that you had loved. It hurts, isn't it? Some kind of physical pain? I don't think so. Emotions, you afraid of losing someone you have loved. And that's okay.
What means to triumph? Actually I don't know yet. We can't triumph. But we can save what we have.
Fate was kind to the Cory Richards and gave him an opportunity to recognize a role of his friends and everyone who surrounds him. And I hope everyone will understand that without tempting fate.

  2. As for me in this story pain means obstacle that separates us from triumph. Why only a few of us achieve our triumph? Because our sense of self-prevention leads us through an easy way. But we are humans we have the ability to think, to fight with our fears. We have dreams, we have plans, we have aims and when we fulfill them in spite of everything that harms us we reach triumph. So I think that triumph it’s a mountain top which we need to attain through all “avalanches” to feel a sense of dignity to be human. Without pain our achievements don’t worth anything, straggle makes triumph itself. I think that being human means experiencing feelings of love and hatred, happiness and sorrow, perfection and despair. That is what distinguishes us from other creatures. We should get out of our comfort zone to feel what it means to be human. Life is filled with so many things, emotions and feelings so we can’t miss them. Being human means to have an opportunity to experience everything that is good and bad in life and we are happy to be humans because life is really fun.

  3. I think Cory Richard's story is very instructive for everyone. It teaches us appreciate our lives and don't exaggerate trifle problems. In my opinion the situations which hurt a person determine the boundaries of his or her personality. If a person is too sensitive it's bad because modern world is very cruel. But at the same time if a person doesn't care about anything it's also bad because it means that this person hasn't any humans feelings. As for me I am afraid of losing close people because I know that it will hurt me so much.
What about triumph, for me triumph it's systematic development. Our live consists of small victories which stimulate us for great ones.
And the last one 'what means to be human?'. First of all it's feel everything (I think everyone will write it. But what I can do if it's true😊). Happiness, love, hate, pain, enthusiasm, disappointment and millions of other feelings. But besides feeling people can analyse, sympathize and help each other. It differ us from animals.

  4. On my opinion we are all humans - all nationalities, all huge world, every kilometer square. We all everywhere, every of us wan't differen't thing's and wishes. We try to achieve our goals. The way of live isn't short, every year new discovers, new visited places. We all have unsuccessful cases, but we all never give up! We have dark times in our history, but the whole world tried to stop all efforts. We are humans, we are weak, but we all want to get more better, strengthful and successful. Never give up and your body, mind will be stronger. As Cory Richard, many people has left without friends, family and other lovely people. But every person haven't time to cry, haven't time for despair. Yes, we all are such as dots on map but we can change!
On my opinion thriumph is such a case of little wins. Every day can be successful and new and new victories can bring us more power to make more good points.
Hurt is such as despair. You crying about some bad news, you getter more weak with every thinking of it. But we all want to be greater, we delelop, we change, we enjoy life.
    Thank's for reading!

  5. "I hurt myself today, To see if I still feel" these words are from the song Hurt by Johnny Cash. I think an avalanche in the Himalayas was "hurt" in Cory Richard's life, after which became "triumph". He became popular and understand for himself what is life. "Life is fun", he said. But in order to achieve it he went through "hurt", an enormous obstacle.
What it means to hurt, what it means to triumph, and what it means to be human for me? I don't know. In my life wasn't such a turning point that make me think about it. I need more time to think. Maby more time than two days. But right now to be human for me is to do what you must, want, like vocation, a strong feeling of suitability for a particular direction. We are humans and unlike animals we can do everything.
This topic is really hard and make me think about interesting and a little bit depressive things. But I think that if you asked me "What it means to hurt, what it means to triumph, and what it means to be human for you?" much later, I will give another answer.

  6. After watching this video, I pondered over the value of life. A lot of people are concerned about through trivia, don’t value life, fall into depression and even want to commit suicide. However, this is not the way out of the complicated and obscure situations. Problems which seem unsolvable today, already tomorrow will seem nonsense. So we need to appreciate life, because it can end at any second.
1.“what it means to hurt”. We feel pain when we have offended or betrayed. However, in my opinion, the biggest pain causes us the loss of a dear person.
2.“what it means to triumph”. I think it is to make small steps toward your dream, goal and the rest to achieve success. Change your life for the better.
    3. “what it means to be human”. Human is an amazing creature. We are able to think, feel, respect each other, responsible for our actions ,to see the beautiful and do good. In addition, to be human is necessarily to have a purpose in life, friends and family.

  7. Everyone has their own little avalanches in life. Pain which we came through create us. “What doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger”, right? So, Cory Richards show us that life is wonderful, world around us is wonderful. His example show that if we learn how to accept our fails and mistakes, it’ll bring us a triumph. Obstacles can hurt us as physical as psychical. Our bodies will treat, but our souls will keep scars inside while all life.

But despite this we need to be human first of all. Don’t let it break you down and push you in the darkness. We live in society and should care and respect others. If there is something bad with you, don’t make people around feel the same. So for me being human is respectable relationships with surrounders.

  8. I think that that one thing which unites this trio is of course feelings. Feelings are that thing which can bring you up every day but at the same time kill you the inside out. Feelings run the world, we can fall in love by our feelings, we can murder by them too. Cory Richards’s job is really incredible; his matter is what somebody else can feel by looking at a picture. He doesn’t live for richness, he lives for fun. Fun which he receives passing a ton of problems. I don’t know what it means to hurt for me, because I didn’t feel betrayed or I didn’t lose someone who is precious to me. Even it happened, maybe I wouldn’t feel anything. I don’t know what it means to triumph for me, because I still haven’t reached something in my life, I haven’t felt like top banana in this world, maybe this things won’t give that emotions that I expect, maybe this things will bring something terrible in my life like loneliness or kind of that. But I think that I know what it means to be human for me, I think everybody knows it from childhood, but with time they’re forgetting. To be human is to feel and to be a cause of other people’s feelings, to make laugh other and make a connection between each other, to help each other, to love each other, to disappoint, to make other lives harder. Now my job is to reach my aims and meet an “avalanche” which direct me towards. I want to feel that my life is fun and I can share it.
Feelings are the most magnificent present that we have ever got, and the most dreadful disease we have ever had.

  9. Hurt.
The pain is different: physical and moral, but in my opinion, no physical pain is comparable to the moral one. Moral pain seems to eat you from the inside. You can not concentrate on something, because it's like you're haunted. Some wounds or illness will pass, but the pain from the actions of other people will leave a wound on the heart forever.
    Triumph.
For me, triumph is a fulfilled goal. What you have been looking for and spending a lot of time and effort has been achieved. At this moment, you realize that all your efforts were not in vain. You feel the fierce joy of thinking that you may have achieved what you have been striving for throughout your life.
    To be human.
Being a person means understanding. Understand someone or something. Understand the seriousness of their actions and words. Being a person is to express the words of support to those who need it. Help. Being a person means feeling pain and triumph. Catch every good moment and understand that this is a real life and it is beautiful.

  10. After watching this video, I was under great effect. From the first seconds, it looks that Cory's life is really beautiful, interesting but not very easy - he is just travelling, visits different countries, meets some interesting people and in all, he is a lucky man. But after I listened to Cory's history attentively, I understood that his triumph is not something accidental - it is hard "road" to his wishes what he has to overcome the pain and difficulties.
Could I be able to stand the pain? I don't know. I think it is possible to suffer from physical pain. But there are different types of harm - it is something that unreally to cure - it is a pain of loss. I am not afraid of difficulties, but I would never want to feel a heartache.
What is it triumph? In my opinion, for everyone triumph means something different. If you have some points in your life and all difficulties you reach them it is a real triumph for you. When a toddler starts walking it a real triumph for parents or when his parents saved up enough of money to buy their own flat, it is also a great triumph. At present, I have just one desired triumph - to get good marks on my ZNO tests. But after that, I would find some new 'triumphs' like a better job and something like that.
What does it mean to be human? Humans are different from other creatures in that except ordinary needs like food, sleeping and others we need to develop ourselves, to improve ourselves mentally. "True man" it is a person with a good heart, that won't go past someone who needs help. It is an average situation when at the funeral people tell:"He was "True man" ". They mean that deceased has left a "mark" in our world - did something good or just was a nice man.

  11. In my opinion, be human means be a smartest creature on our planet, that, at the same time, can be cruelest and coward animal in the Solar system. Be human means feel huge range of emotions as compared to animals. Be human means that you can feel the most happy of all humankind and, after a while, feel your heart torn down by some kind of problems. Be human means go through your life with full head of expressions, no matter good or bad. Be human means forgive, love, hate, tears, happiness and much more. But, most important, be human means compassion. To be human you need just to be yourself and help other live full life.

  12. I think that writing this topic means something special for everyone here. It's not about do you agree or disagree with Cory Richards and not even about how this video makes you feel. It's all about your dreams, your potential and possibilities. Every moment in our life makes us feel different emotions and this is the difference between humans and animals. To live happy life it's not living without pain, without difficulties and without problems. To live happy life means to overcome all the problems and come through all the negative emotions with your parents and friends.
I remember one good quote. It says: "We don't remember days, we remember moments". And I'm completely agree. For example in Cory Richards's life a moment which he will always remember was an avalanche on Gasherbrum in the Himalayas on the boarder of Pakistan and China. And after that he understood that nothing is impossible. Humans potential is limitless. And everyone establish his own potential. And to reach the heights we need to come through all the obstacles on our way to success. And now I can surely answer your question. Being a human means to live every moment like your last minute before death. I know that sounds strange but it's true. Our life consists of millions of different moments and emotions that we unable to forget. So if you don't remember such moments you must immediately change your life upside-down and then you'll feel yourself free and become happy.

  13. After watching the video about Cory Richards, I felt happy for him
because he managed to find his own way in life, his own way to express
his voice and be happy about it.

The guy suffered a lot: out of school at 14, homeless most the time.
Sitting in my cozy warm room at home, I can't even imagine what he had
to overcome in order to survive.

But those difficulties haven't hardened his heart, they have made him
very empathetic and friendly. They have led him to his triumph.

For Cory richness comes with struggle. But is it really necessary to
struggle and suffer a lot in order to become successful? Well, you
should definitely come out of your comfort zone but it doesn't
necessarily mean you have to be hurt too much on your way to triumph.

Find your unique way to express your voice in this big confusing
world, work hard, but don't hurt anyone on your way to success, live
with an open heart and don't forget to enjoy life. Life is fun, after
    all.
This is my answer to your questions.

  14. I respect Cory Richards, he impressed me a lot by his interview. I think that his own triumph is to be free, to be independent. His triumph is to be free from urban fuss, from traffic noise, and to feel on any continent in any country like at home.

What it means to hurt? I think «hurt» is meant mental pain, not physical and for me it is when I’m losing someone very close to me. But "“Everything that does not kill us – makes us stronger”(or disabled)" - Nerdan)) Also I always get upset when I realize that I lost or waste my time, because from year to year it seems to me that clock is ticking more faster.

For me triumph is a feeling of great satisfaction caused by a success or achievement (so banal but honestly) And it is all about emotions, it is doesn’t matter how much effort it took to succeed, important how much emotions you got from your victory.

What it means to be human for me? *so hard question* It means to take advantage of all opportunities that we have: to travel, to learn and to teach, to become better every day, to love, to work hard, to be happy and to make happy surrounding))

  15. Cory Richards endured many difficulties in his life, he knows, what poor is, but despite of them he throw up his hands. Mountains became his favourite type of adventure, it was as a test of his capasity. All views he saw, he translate throgh photos, photography is a passion for him. He do what he really like and enjoy it, it's like to find your place in this world.
Everyone of us has his own life, but also we have a obstacles, which we have to overcome, overvise our life will become too easy. If you want to achieve something, you have to make every effort. In result you definitely got it. This sense when you finally achieve, what you really want and what can bring pleasure called triumph. But there are not only good moments in your life. Unfortunately, you have to get through failure and disappointment in your life. They will bring you moral and emotional pain, but they also can give you very important lessons.
Enjoy your life, achieve set goals, have fun and live like you want, maybe it's means to be a human.

  16. Cory Richards gave his emotions and sensations through the photos. His story hooked me very much. The story is about how he survived, how he cope with hurt and passed this whole pain through one snapshot.
Everything sometimes hurts, and we need to be able to cope with it. Defeat does not mean that the life comes to an end. Do not wave your fists after a fight. A broken heart does not stick together with tears and snot. Sometimes, when you have a trouble, you must realize that everything is not that bad. Everyone experiences a pain and the main thing is to know how to behave correctly in such situations. Not every fairy tale should have a happy ending. But we can do everything to make our fairy tale end well. I open my soul to people. I give others a piece of my heat and they respond to me the same. This is my little triumph. Such a grain of sand in the scale of the whole world, but a very important detail of my life. I think that this means to be a human. To celebrate the victory, to suffer defeat, the main thing is never to stop and go forward.

  17. I was very impressed by a story of this man.

Cory Richards is a photographer, which lost his friends at the expedition in mountains, furthermore when he was 14, he was kicked out of his school.

After watching this video I've thinked a lot. First of all we need to be human. I think everyone were faced into the trouble, but it maked us stronger. Cory Richards is an example for this.

So we need to enjoy every happy moment of our life.

    Hurt:
For me hurt means pain, for example when someone offended us.

    Triumph:
This feeling when we something won.

  18. I think that it's too early for me either to answer this question, because the answer will not be true. I do not know what it means to court. I do not know what it means to triumph. I can answer the question of what it means to be a man for me. It's simple, being a man means feeling emotions. All our actions somehow come down to the emotions that we experience after these actions. "... life is fun ..." I do not know how to say better something about life. You have to live and not to survive so that would receive positive emotions . Laughter prolongs life.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think this story can teach people what it means to be a human and to hurt. Cory Richard showed us that to be a human means to fight oneself, one's own fears and non-confidence. In the video, he says that every moment he had to choose between his body and his mind. And I think this is what it means to be human: to make daily choices between a physical ability and a mind, between a pain and dreams about a triumf. In daily life, we don't realise what it means to be hurt . We think that to be hurt means to have some conflict with your family and friends or to have some kind of disease. But after some stressful situations, we start understanding that there are problems that are more sirious than tipical daily issues. For example, when you lose your close friend and become lonely.
I think this story makes all people think what they should change in their life, how to make a right choice and what it means to be human, to hurt and to triumph.

  20. Ooook ... Let's imagine that I am an astronaut, but it is unreal (. I have a lot of health problems so I can not become an astronaut.
Let's start. I have several hours before I have to go to cosmodrome. So, how am I going to spend this time? The first idea that comes to my mind is that I have to sleep well, but maybe I would have a lot of free time in the space. But how can you go so far from home? Your head is exploding with a lot of ideas. So, what I am going to do before 'flying' to space. Trivially but I want to go with my friends like McDonald's, Mafia, Dominos or something like that. Of course, the aim is not just for food, but I want to spend a lot of time with people. Also, I can not forget about my family. I must spend some time with them. After all 'meetings' I would pack all my stuff in the bag and go to the shuttle.
And the last part is the best. I imagine myself in a space suit, pathetically walking in slow-mo to my space-ship. It would be something like in Hollywood films. And it is 3, 2, 1. Engines start! Pshhhhhhhhh!

  21. What means be "human"? What make us different from animals? I thunk the most important part of humans it is their brain. But many of peoples don't use it. In exemple one of crusade (in my opinion not God made peoples but peoples made God) so if your God made you to kill someone to fight with another peoples why you believe in such thing. That one of many examples of peoples idiocy. I think the most important thing which make us different from animals is our mind. So be "human"means use your mind.

  22. So let's start. It hurts for me when a person who is close to you is betraying you. When you tell one thing in your eyes, and completely different behind your back. When a person communicates with you only for some benefit to her. When you trust a person, you tell her all your secrets, and she then tells them to other people. The triumph for me is when you finally came to the goal, which went all his life. When you have the slightest reason for joy. When you have a good relationship with people. And in general, triumph is a simple happiness. Being a man is difficult in our world. Not everyone understands how and what it is. For me it is when you are for justice in the world. When you always say the truth in your eyes and let it not be as pleasant, but it's true for that. When you are ready to help.

  23. While reading your answers it has come to my notice that some of you confuse the words 'history' and 'story. These two words are confusing in some context and thus you don't see difference between them. However, strictly speaking, they are different words with different meanings and usages. The word 'history' refers to the events of the ‘past.’ It is ‘a chronological record of events, as of the life or development of a people or institution, often including an explanation of or commentary on those events.’ History is always factual. It is always the truth. For example, when we say ‘history of Ukraine’ we are speaking about the actual events that took place in the past in Ukraine. 'Story' refers to ‘an account of some event.’ In other words, a story is when you tell about something to someone else or write an account of something.
