“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” -Virginia Woolf

    In our life there many different ways to get some life energy. The most popular way to get the energy - it is to eat !!!
    Just imagine the situation, you came home from school and you are hungry. And only one thought in your brain:"I am hungry!!! or Where to get some food and etc". Love is one of the strongest feelings in the world but if you're hungry you can not think of anything except food. The same situation is with slipping if you are hungry you would try to get up al night and secretly steal some food from the fridge.
    But to myself, I never felt such a severe hunger, so that I could not think anything about food.
    And to tell the truth, I am a bit disagree with Virginia Woolf because in one way I understand her quote in the not really good way. For me, her quote means that we live to eat, not eat to live.

  2. Dear Olga,
    Hi! I am sure that every quote has something truthful. But sometimes we can not agree with everything. I am always trying to find something that would deny the statement. So I disagree with this quote!
    First of all, we all know that healthy lifestyle means that we should eat well. But when we must eat food that gives us a lot of energy? Of course in the morning! " Breakfast like a king, dine like a prince, supper like a beggar"! The energy for all of this we must get from healthy breakfast.
    Because of school, children must have satisfying breakfast. To be honest,I almost never dine, I only eat cereals with milk in the evenings :)
    I would like to know what you think about it.

  3. In a certain sense I agree with Virginia because our nutrition directly influences on our mood and well-being. If a person does not eat anything for just 4 hours he feel weakness and irritability. Moreover, lack of carbohydrates can lead to depression and lack of saturated fat lead to unhealthy look of the hair and skin. So the quality of our food is definitely affects our health, appearance and well-being. But on the other side, we need food only for survival. This is our fuel that gives us energy. Food must be just healthy and we shouldn’t turn the process of eating into pleasure or salvation from unpleasant emotions. Because of delicious and harmful food, thousands of people suffer from excess weight and other serious diseases. I think that the right food is the key to health and beauty and the abuse of harmful food leads to serious problems.

  4. In my opinion the main thought of this quote is :" Food is the most important thing and above all we must eat well". I agree with this statement. Because , first of all , the organism needs food for a good functioning. We can't live without food. Also when we are hungry we think only about food, not about something else. Food gives energy for brain to work. We cannot love without food. For many people food is love, lol. And for me too. For example I like to eat chocolate and I think it's impossible to imagine life without it. There is a saying :"The way to the heart of a man lies through the stomach". And of course I cannot sleep without food. How not to eat something tasty before going to bed?) So I absolutely agree with Virginia Woolf and before all we must eat well.

  5. I think that phrase means our needed part of life - eating some food. We can't doing something without energy. Energy for some human can be restored after sleeping 8-9 hours but main priority is taking eating of food. If you don't eat some time you will have extinguished stomach, weakness, weakened immune system and other bad symptoms. In science energy is coming from chemical reactions in our body by over-dressing food, so I agree with that quote. All people love eating different food - junk food, vegetables and fruits, milk products, meat products and other. Evey human has this and that taste - first love chips and french fries, but don't like milk, second eating meat and vegetables but disgusting junk food. We all have different mind and hobbies, tastes - that's make us people and we wasn't seriously change our food, water and air dependence for thousands years.

  6. I agree with this quote.
      Firstly, in the morning, personally, I do not really want to eat, but at night I do not want to eat, so lunch is the best option for enriching energy.
      Secondly, if you do not eat well, then all the time as you do something, you will cover the feeling of hunger and you will not be able to concentrate on work or some other affairs.
    Consequently, we can conclude that “One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.”Therefore, I absolutely agree with Virginia Woolf.

  7. I agree with Virginia Woolf. Food is important part in our lives. Food gives us energy and strength to move forward.First of all, to think well we should eat well. To improve mental activity the food should be useful and contain vitamins and nutrients. Secondly, when we are hungry we become aggressive. We can’t express positive emotions and feelings such as joy, pleasure and love. Also, the feeling of hunger does not allow us to sleep . However, it improves our figure , because eating at night is bad for health, but it affects our sleep. So I completely agree with this quote:“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” But food isn’t the most important thing in our lives and we should not forget about it.

  8. OMG! I must truly admit that this is the coolest topic I've ever talked about. It is well known fact that we can't live without eating food and drinking water. Everyone has its own tastes and preferences.As for me, I love eating junk food and drinking Coca-Cola. And honestly I don't really believe people who say that they don't like eating fast food or other junk food(but maybe someone really don't but I actually don't really care). And when it's 11 p.m. in the evening we become monsters who can and will eat everything on his or her way(true life story yeah).
    So that's why I truly agree with this statement. When we're full, we feel ourselves much more better than when we're hungry. But eating too much junk food it's not a solution in order not to be hungry, as it can cause serious health problems as gastritis or you can put on weight.
    So it you want to be happy and healthy person you must eat junk food moderately.

  9. YES! YEEES! SO TRUE! TOTALLY AGREE! FOOD IS LIFE AND LIFE IS FOOD!
    To begin with, of course food is inalienable part of our life. Why we need food? Cause we want to live. But food is not the only way to survive; it’s also source of energy and a main reason of our different mood.
    I need to agree that the best begging of our morning is a breakfast. Breakfast serves like an alarm clock for our organism, which needs to wake up and squirrels energy for rest of a day. But we start to lose this energy and our working capacity starts to decelerate, that is why we need to have a dinner! However, what we always forget about food is enjoying. Only when we savour the flavor of each mouthful and chew your food well we truthfully restore in all ways. We start think straight, love sincerely and then sleep well.
    Also, I want to use some great quote to end - “If you eat without getting stressed, you won’t gain weight. If you think of happy thoughts while eating, you won’t gain weight. If you don’t enjoy the food, you’ll gain weight”. Simple, but true.

  10. I disagree with this statement, because nowadays there are many ways of obtaining energy for your mind. For example, you can buy energy drink.It will fill you with energy for the whole day and you will not have to waste time preparing and eating food. Another way its to drink some coffee. So you can fill yourself with energy not only with food.

  11. As Karl Marx said:"Being determines consciousness". So, if you have empty stomach and nothing to eat, it will seriously influence our mental capabilities. Our mind will be flooded with subconscious thoughts about food, that won't allow you concentrate on your tasks. Also, if you want to be healthy you must eat periodically, not only when you starving. So, I agree with this statement. Though, I think that people can overcome hunger, like spartans, and carry through work.

  12. Food is good. Tasty food is better than good. I think food plays a very important role in our life. Because it is the source of literary everything. We need energy to live and we get that from sleeping and eating. Food is better than a lot of things. As Bernard Shaw said : " There is no sincerer love than the love of food". Which is totally true. Food can even help you find new friends. Because when you meet a person with similar tastes in food, you meet a soulmate. Also food gives me inspiration and makes me feel good ( if I don't overeat). So I completely agree with Virginia Woolf's statement.

  13. Virginia Woolf was the great woman, she raised serious questions like feminism, gender roles, female education and emancipation (I always know that I will need to use this world one day😊).
    But I think when she told “One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” she means that we just have to eat to get some energy. We need food to live. But it doesn't mean if we eat our life will be happy, it also doesn't mean that we will think, love or sleep, we just will have energy to do it. In another way I think she would not committed suicide. I won't write how harmful is don't eat 5 times a day or eat junk food and sweets because it's well known for everybody.
    All in all if I understand Virginia's words right I'm completely agree with her.
    P.S.: I also agree with Karina "...when we are hungry we become aggressive...", that is why she always feed me during the day))

  14. “One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.'' The first think that comes to my mind is food and its importance. Everyone know that we can't live without food, because food it's energy and energy is our life. "Hungry man is an angry man" and it is really true. When you hungry you have bad mood, you become crabby, sad and the only thing you can think about is food. You can't sleep well, because your stomach won't let you forget about him, you can't communicate with people because nobody want to spend time with someone who have bad mood and full of negative. Whatever you do, take a break and eat something : have a lunch in restaurant or eat a bun or cake with coffe, if you have not so much time, and then you become happy :)

    (To tell the truth, I until the last moment hoped that this quote has different meaning, but it's not)

  15. Well, Virginia Woolf didn’t surprise me. It’s obvious, isn’t it?? When one is hungry, one wants to smash everything – and everyone – in sight.
    I understand her very well, because I often wake up at 8:10 a.m. and I don’t have enough time to eat my breakfast(( And when I come to school, I feel like I’m the HULK… Also, it’s really scary when you sit behind a desk and only one question that comes into my mind is: «Interesting, what a ficus taste like?»..
    What about dinner? I don’t know) Because each meal for me is sacred and I can’t remember the last time I missed dinner.(nice, doesn’t it?)
    In conclusion, Virginia Woolf didn’t tell me anything new but I partially agree with Virginia. I am well aware of how does it feel like to be hungry, but I don’t really sure that I will sleep bad If I didn’t dined well)

  16. I share Virginia's view but not at all. Reason is that for me dinner isn't the most important meal, because after school I don't have enough time for it. To my mind, more important is breakfast. It gives you an energy for the whole day.

    But I think that it isn't what Virginga Woolf tried to say. I think that the point is we need to eat well to live well. If you don't have energy, everyting you can think about is FOOOOOOD. This thought usually can come to you mind at night so it's necessary to eat well before going to the bed (but not eat a lot - it's bad for your health).

    And, of course, food is a foudation of good mood. Do you see hungry and, at the same time, happy person? No, no one loves to be hungry. Hungry person can't love anybody. Just hate.

    So I think that Virginia meant that if you were hungry, you could not act and feel well.

  17. Food is a very important part of our life. We can't life without it, because food gives us energy and strength to do something. But some people cannot control themselves, when they eat. And, I think, it is wrong. Of course, some foods, like chocolates and chips, can looks very tasty and it is hard not to eat them. So people usually overeat junk food. And it can cause awful consequences. For example, side effects of consuming junk food are that people are likely to gain weight and have heart problems. Moreover a risk of cancer also increased after consuming such kind of food.
    So people must be carefully with their wishes and control themselves.
    To conclude, I must say that I also cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if l have not dined well. That is why I completely agree with Virginia Woolf. But l try to lead healthy lifestyle. So if I want to eat something at night, I eat apples(but not always;))

    Food is very important for people and animals life. It gives us energy.
    Firstly,after our waking up we should have a breakfast to get energy . Than people can think about all in the world . Secondly,you can not think about love when you want to eat. I do not understand why,but it is a fact.
    Also we can't sleep without dinner. Our brain start to seek way how to eat.

  20. I agree with it. But I don't understand why can not "love well". We need food to recieve the energy. And if we have no energy, we can't do anything. A lot of people like eating food. Tasty food. There are a lot of kinds. My favourite is junk food. All in all food takes an important part of our life. People can't live without it. Food is the main source of our energy, and of course we can't sleep when we are hungry. Furthermore, a lot of us have different tastes. Somebody can eat just everything, and others like me can't eat some types of vegetables or something else.

  21. I agree with Virginia, because nutrition affects our mood and health. Food is the source of energy. The breakfast helps awaken our body and gain strength for the beginning of the day, and dinner at the end of the day. A hungry person is more irritable. The quality of our food affects our health and appearance.
    But the food should be not only delicious, but also useful. Since it affects the health of our body and appearance. Abuse of harmful food can lead to bad consequences.

Because when you have breakfast, you are gaining energy and good mood for the whole day. If a person has a bad mood, then this means that she did not eat breakfast. It is very important to have breakfast, because a good mood in a person should be every day. Food is also important for our health, for our health.
