"The Prestige": How did the film make you feel? Did you like it? On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the film, and why? Both characters Robert Angier and Alfred Borden in The Prestige make significant sacrifices for their craft. Whose sacrifices do you think were greater, and why? Who is the true protagonist of the story for you? Whose side are you on? Have you ever been so passionate about something that you made sacrifices for it? Is it ever justifiable to hurt others for the sake of art, innovation, or success?

  1. The film caused mixed feelings. I am neutral about the film. 7/10, I think it is very difficult to say why, but this film is so confusing that is why it is rated this way.I think the losses of both are very significant, so I cant answer for sure.i think the true protagonist of the story its a watcher,we decide who we will be for and who we will be against. I'm on the neutral side, but at the same time I worry about the characters in the film.Yes, I have taken big losses many times for the sake of the result, but more often than not these losses were not worth it.In my opinion, some losses are justified, but for the most part they are much higher than what we consider a fair price.

    1. What specific elements of the film contributed to your mixed feelings (e.g., plot twists, character decisions, pacing)? Can you give examples?

  2. There are movies which I want to watch again and again, but this one isn’t like that. 5/10 It’s just not my thing) Most of the movie is slow and boring, but it has positive points like unexpected moments, especially the end of the film. I enjoying to watching the fight between two heroes only to finally find the answer. It seems to me that both characters have played too much and bringing pain to others every time is too much. If you ever make sacrifices out of necessity, the main thing is not to get carried away later.

    2. You mentioned the "fight between the two heroes." Did you find yourself rooting for one over the other, even slightly? Why or why not?

    3. Angier sacrifice himself and his principles. Borden sacrifices all his life to save the secret of his trick, but his family suffers too. Family is the most important, so I think it’s Borden.

    4. I think not, I can't even say that I like either of them. On the one hand, they both are purposeful and go towards their goal, but they don’t know boundaries and destroy everything in their path.

  3. The film makes me feel mix emotions. I was surprised and impressed . If to be honestly, that’s not my favourite type of movie but i was interested in how people create tricks. It always was mysterious for me . My scale is 6/10.
Both heroes make extraordinary sacrifices for their craft. In my view, Borden’s sacrifices are greater than Angier’s. He sacrifices a lot, namely his family.
The film doesn’t have a clear protagonist. It’s more about exploring both main characters , with Borden and Angier representing two sides of obsessive ambition. For me, Borden feels more like the true protagonist because his sacrifices.
I have never ever been so passionate about something that I made sacrifices for it. Maybe, in the future ,who knows( I hope I don't have to do that) , but if it happens ,i’ll always try to do the least sacrifices for it.
In my opinion, we can’t hurt others ‘cause of our interests or success. That’s just unacceptable!
It was interesting to watch to the end of because of tense intrigue, unexpected turns of events and a desire to understand the secrets of the heroes and their tricks.

    2. i would choose Borden's side, i’m totally agree with Polina’s opinion about his sacrifies . Family is the most important thing in our lives . If we don’t have anyone, we always have family, So, yeah, i think, its Borden’s side

  4. My impression about film "The prestige" is mixed. I can't say that i like it, but I also can't say that it's bad and I hate it. As for me this film was a little boring, cause i don't like this type of film so I'll rank it 5/10.
In my opinion, Alfred Borden had made greater significant. Cause he did all to improve his skills and he really was exciting about his craft. He even lost his family for it. And all that angier did was only to become better and more popular than Alfred.
I have been so passionate about something and I made sacrifices for it. But such situations were not very often.
I thing sometimes we should doing some sacrifices for something we interesting at. But we shouldn't hurt anyone.

    2. Yes, I think so, cause they both always manipulate. Angier created his clons with the help of Tesla machine and kills them after shows. And Borden has a twin brother and he lives like 2 lives so he deceiving people

  5. This film caused me a lot of emotions, but most of all I felt interest and sadness, especially at the end. I liked that film, but moments I was bored so I would rate it at 8/10.
I think that they both suffered significant sacrifices, but still Alfred suffered more sacrifices. For me, they were both true protagonists. Probably I on no one's side. In my life I hadn't sacrificed that I was passionate about. This is a difficult question on which everyone have their answers, but there were many cases when there were victims to achieve a goal, often it was science. I think you can do without hurting others.

    4. Alfred Borden sometimes loved tricks more than his wife, she even said: "Today you love tricks, not me" and "Today you love me." He also cheated on her with an assistant, and after the death of his wife in a restaurant, Alfred said that he did not like Sarah, to which Olivia said that any woman could be in her place, that is, she meant that he was lying.
Robert Angers wanted to avenge the death of his wife, in which Alfred is entirely to blame, for he did not force Julia to make this connection, and if she refused, he would make the one mentioned by Cutter. He also did not notice Olivia and wanted her to learn Borden's secrets that upset her. It should also be said about how he wanted to take revenge on Borden, faking his death thanks to the invention of Tesla.

  6. This film makes me feel bored, don't like it so much. I rate it 5/10. The film is not interesting to me, but the ending was shocking, I had no clue this was twins. Sometimes I felt sad and worried about the heroes. For me, Alfred's and Angier's sacrifices were great, but I don't understand their enmity and their trying to uncover each other's secrets, in my opinion, this is a bit silly. I have been passionate about things, but I have never made big sacrifices for them. I know that the creative path is very hard, but this is not a reason to hurt others.

    2. I think "The Prestige" shows that too much ambition can destroy you. The characters, wanting to be the best at what they do, lose their humanity, their relationships, and even their lives. The lesson is to stay moral and not forget about the people around you.

    2. Invasions this is something what will help or save humans and some another creatures. Because if u kill 10 people but it will help to save 1000 it is profit and if u kill 10 people fore one art it isn’t logical. I think without victim u cant do really cool invasions like a pills, u have to do tests first on animals after on people and unfortunately sometimes it isn’t go ing to as expect and someone can die ore have injury or something else. But without this u can create art. I’m not against to the your self victim for art. But not other people.

  8. The Prestige make me difirent feel. But I really enjoyed it. I'd give it a 8 out of 10 because of the clever plot twists, strong performances, and the way it keeps you guessing until the end.Between Angier and Borden, I think Borden's sacrifices are greater. He gives up his personal life for his craft. Angier sacrifices too, but his choices are driven more by revenge than passion. For me, Borden is the true protagonist. And I've never been so passionate about something as to make sacrifices for it.
"Is it ever justifiable to hurt others for the sake of art, innovation, or success?"absolutly not if talk about art, innovation. But for success it more difficult to answer, everyone has to choose for themselves. For me, no.

  9. „ The Prestige „ is a psychological thriller. I can’t say that I like this type of films. In some way it’s the kind of a magical film, about two magicians, illusion and their fantastic tricks. That’s why I liked it.
These two magicians, brothers are selfish men. I think they made both sacrifices in the wrong way. Borden sacrificed himself and Angier sacrificed others. They did it only for the triumph of their show. And they didn’t think about the costs of their great tricks.

  10. This film is interesting for me because i have mixed feeling. I rate it 8/10. For me this film was interesting because it has an exciting plot and good actors who fit the role. It's hard but in my opinion, Alfred Borden has the most sacrifices because in fact he will understand untill the end of his life that what he did was not what he can did. For me, there will always be only two main character. I'm on the side of Angier. Sometimes i make sacrifices but I try not to do that. I think if you know that innovation will bring you and other success, then it is possible and necessary to harm someone or something

    2. I think ambition of success is good, when you don't have a big risk harm to someone (for example, to lead someone to death). In film I saw how main characters chased by success making sacrifices to each other (this bad because end of the film is tragic)

  11. "The Prestige" is a powerful film that explores obsession, sacrifice, and morality. I’d rate it 9 out of 10 for its brilliant narrative, direction, and performances.
Alfred Borden sacrifices more, living a double life that destroys his family, while Robert Angier’s sacrifices, though extreme, are driven by ego and revenge. For me, Borden is the true protagonist, as his dedication feels more genuine.
The film raises the question: are sacrifices and harm to others ever justified for success? My answer is no—no goal is worth losing humanity. MARCHENKO A

  12. I just felt interest in the film, nothing else, it's just hard to make me feel anything, accept the moment when I knew that Julia will die. A nice film, solid 9.5/10, in my opinion an interesting film in general, why i liked it? Because of the way story was told, it wasn't always past or present, which was interesting in my opinion would definitely rewatch.
Angier sacrificed a fortune, morality and...*himself*. Literally.
While Alfred sacrificed his brother, twin brother.
In my opinion loosing yourself is worse. The actual Angier died in the first performance, he was never the Prestige, he was the first dead one. Why worse? Imagine not knowing if u will be making out alive, u won't. U were never destined to, u were always the waste material.
The true protagonist in my opinion is is Angier...the *real* Angier. The one that died in the first performance, the first and only real one.
I don't pick sides, both of them are despicable men, or should I say the three of them? None of them are good, never were in my opinion, men are humans and humans are animals, they care about themselves and their survival, nothing more, nothing less. Even if Alan cared about his daughter, he could've had a full life and stopped switching to Fellon, which could've saved his wife a life. Angier was jealous and wanted revenge for his wife, that was what the killing part of the killing clones was, except the way of getting rid of them in general, so there won't be too much of Angiers.
The only sacrifice i had for my passions is time, nothing more, nothing else. Can't say anything about it, maybe i was never passionate about it, but i think i will never, because im ready to make sacrifices only for people, and only the ones that matter, nothing else.
If we're gonna talk if progress is worth hurting others, then sometimes yes. Our innovations that are really valid stopped because of some guidelines, by all means, they are necessary, but we will never make progress without sacrificing something or someone, that's just the way i think, the way i feel and the way i believe.
Hope, that u will understand my position in the last question and won't question it further, because there's nothing more to say, nothing else to add, that was all truth in my head, unless u want to try to prove me wrong.
Thank u, and have a great night, because it won't be good.

  13. I really liked the movie, it kept all the questions that I had accumulated during the entire time of watching the movie, like: "How did he do the trick with the displacement or is it true that there is his double?"; "Who was he addressing when he said why he can't do better than him?"; "How does he manage to do all this?", these are just the questions that I remembered, but there were many more. But I still think what would have happened if they had still worked together and this woman had not died. At the end, I liked the denouement how he(they) circled everyone around his finger, when the shot rang out I thought "Who could it be?" but then I saw a red ball and didn't understand anything at all, then when he told how he fooled everyone I was simply amazed how he(they) came up with it all. While watching, I stopped to translate some words, but I liked that they didn't eat letters often.

  14. “The Prestige” makes me different emotions. I was interested and impressed but my scale is 6/10. Cause for me the film was boring and long but I liked watching the magic tricks, the heroes, and the unexpected plot at the end of the film. I think the two heroes did a lot of harm to each other but doing it for the necessity or benefit - is too much. It was interesting to watch their decision and understand the secrets of the heroes.

  15. I really like this movie. This film always makes me wonder. It is very surprising.
My scale is 8/10. Not 10/10 because in some moments filming was not very good, otherwise it is a really good movie. It is not very slow and not over-dynamic. I don't like very dynamic movies.
I think Alfred Bordens makes more sacrifices for his crafts. He lost his wife and his own life.
It is a very big sacrifice for art. In my opinion they are both real protagonists. Alfred and Robert play a main role in this history.
In my opinion it is very hard to choose, because they are similar, both obsessed with their crafts and show, and both very selfish. In my opinion, always when you need to make a choice, you need to make sacrifices. They may be small and almost invisible. So yes, I made sacrifices for my passion.
I think that it is possible to justify hurting others if it improves life for humanity.
This is a sacrifice to achieve some target.

  16. The film is very interesting but im not fully understand it. I’d probably give it a 9 out of 10 because it’s the story what you want to watch again to understand everything better. It make feel a lot of emotions—sadness, surprise, and a lot questions about life and difficult choices.
The protagonist is probably Borden because his story feels less cruel . He did terrible things, but not with the same cold as Angier. I’m on Borden’s side, but it’s sad that they both destroyed themselves because they hate each other.
I think sacrificing someone for your dreams is terrible.

I usually love dark, intelligent films with great acting, but "The Prestige" didn’t fully work for me. It has a strong atmosphere, a great cast, and excellent direction, daring the audience to stay engaged. While I appreciated the craftsmanship and some brilliant twists, the story left me feeling detached.
By the end, I didn’t care about the characters or their obsessive rivalry—it just felt exhausting. The pacing dragged, and while I admired the technical aspects, the emotional impact fell flat. A good film to admire from a distance, but it lacked the depth to truly captivate me.

  18. It`s good film, more interesting events.
My rating 8/10, becouse film have
exciting plot, beautiful, interesting, shooting. But Dynamics film are a bit boring. In my opinion Bowden sacrifices are biggest, than sacrifices Angier. It was interesting to watch their decision. For me I have two main charcters. I'm on the side of Angier. I believe that harming others can rarely, if ever, be justified.

I liked this film with its plot, but in my opinion it would be better if with this plot they was made a series because in one film they tried to reveal almost all the personage which is very difficult to do in 2 hours, so film turned in to dynamic and at times incomprehensible

I don't understand why many people don't like this movie, but in my opinion it's one of the best movies I've ever seen. I rate it 9/10 and now I'll explain why. firstly, the main characters of this movie, namely Robert Angier and Alfred Borden, show a very well-known situation for everyone in the world, when one person tries to surpass another. secondly, choosing the side of the person I would support, it would be Alfred Borden, because he did almost everything painlessly for everyone, unlike Robert Angier, when he at the same time tried to eliminate his opponent, realizing his weakness and inability to surpass him. In my life I would never have thought that you could risk someone's life for the sake of fame. Of course, you can take one step back to then take two steps forward, after all, in my life I did only that. I recommend this film to everyone, regardless of age, the main thing is not to get distracted by anything else while watching, because it can get a little confusing la...
